About the Role

Reporting line: Head of Legal

Location: London, UK

Responsibilities

  • Working with sales, business operations, finance, marketing, compliance, HR, technology, customer support and other teams to provide legal guidance on products, functionalities, features, projects and advising on appropriate risk-based mitigation and business compliance strategies.
  • Review, draft and negotiate contract terms with clients, financial institutions, partners and suppliers.
  • Draft and review ad hoc legal documents, manage general legal queries and advise on a variety of issues facing a high-growth fintech company.
  • Advise on investment services and financial instruments regulations (EU MiFID, UK, Cyprus, Malta, Hong Kong) as well as market data licensing and distribution.
  • Advise on privacy and data protection laws and regulations (GDPR, consents, cookies etc).
  •  Stay up-to-date with relevant industry standards, laws, and regulations, identifying those which impact directly on the business and facilitating or taking the appropriate action to resolve issues that company’s products worldwide are kept current.
  • Assist with corporate housekeeping, drafting resolutions, statutory filings etc.
  • Assist with the litigation management.
  • Contribute to template development, process improvement and internal training, identifying and resolving opportunities to simplify workflows and reduce contractual friction.
  • Collaborate with legal team members to improve processes and ensure business demands are satisfied.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of relevant in-house experience with exposure in financial, investment, digital banking, EMI or other fintech businesses;
  • Acquired in-depth knowledge of the application of international commercial, corporate, regulatory laws to new financial technology products, understanding of privacy and data protection laws;
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, global organisation maintaining close contact with relevant teams across multiple locations;
  • A practical, solutions-oriented focus, and be comfortable with ambiguity and a fast-paced culture, ‘be an owner, not a renter’ mentality, and the desire to get the job done;
  • Ability to think outside the box and find creative resolutions, excellent problem solving skills and ability to provide useful and efficient counsel;
  • Advanced knowledge of English language;
  • Good understanding of English law fundamentals;
  • Strong academic credentials.
